A photographer's delight, a lucky mistake that resulted in the buffalo's appearance, as though coming out of nowhere.
The National Bison Range on the Flathead Salish Reservation in Western Montana is a photographers paradise on par with Yellowstone Park but without the traffic and the congestion and the idiotic selfie seekers. I captured this photo on the lower road in late spring when the males had been separated from the herd. I rounded a corner and came head on towards this small group. I stopped 20 feet back from the car in front while these mighty beasts ignored us and passed on by. In the adrenaline of the moment, I didn't think to switch my camera settings. The result was an image out of the ordinary.
